Question the Critics

Before the critics’ certainty becomes our doubt, ask whether they understand what they’re judging and can see possibilities alongside limitations.

I remember the beginning of the LLM boom and how confidently people said: “This doesn’t work. Maybe in ten years it’ll amount to something.”

When you see the beginnings of something promising, have an idea of how to develop it, and hear ten voices around you saying it’s pointless, it’s hard to push back. Especially when you know how much work still lies ahead.

That’s why we should question the critics before their certainty becomes our doubt. Do they understand what they’re judging? Have they tried it? Can they see the possibilities alongside the limitations?

It’s easy to step into the role of a critic. Confidence alone doesn’t equal knowledge.
